In Stephen Chans piece on travel (02:Travel), there are several mentions of 'culture'. What IS culture? Why do people make jokes about lovely Australians not having one? Culture, like globalisation, is well worth thinking about...it might have to do with a shared history, shared practice and shared expectations of the future? What do you think International Relations is attempting to teach us about culture? a) How to understand our enemy so Britain can re-conquer the world b) How to understand our competitors so Britain can penetrate markets and become again the workshop the world c) Which food to eat when we are on holiday d) That we are all foreigners in nearly 200 countries e) Please stand and applaud the other teams national anthem f) That a yoghurt is able to develop one and Australians not Actually I have lots of Australian friends. None of them though are aboriginals, who also have a culture of their own, although this has largely been decimated and at least modified or compromised through its encounter with the settler population. Hey, you know what I'm sayingenjoy it, celebrate it, don't be ashamed of who you are, and dont expect people to be like you. Do not 'cling-on' to your preconceptions.
