Blended Learning
Blended learning is a phrase used to describe
the combination of traditional and e-learning practices, merging
multiple approaches to learning & modes
of delivery. This can include face-to-face
study, self-study, books, etc., but also, web-based content, multimedia, simulations,
formative assessment, student online
collaboration, discussion and personal
reflection.
For example, you may want to consider some of the following:
- Using online discussion for a pre- or post-seminar session to
either begin student discussion or follow up with found evidence supporting previous
comments, or exploring points raised in-depth.
- Using formative assessment to provide students with self-assessment tools and personalised
feedback on learning and knowledge gaps.
- Foster collaborative learning using wikis for group knowledge building, creating online web
pages & sites, using social constructivist ideas.
- Promoting student reflective activities outside of the classroom. This can be done using blogs,
recording journal/diary entries, a commentary on news or information/thoughts on a particular
subject.
