Reading Short Stories
Reading short stories written in Spanish is an excellent way of building
your vocabulary and acquainting yourself with the work of some of
the world’s greatest authors.
HOW TO FIND SHORT STORIES:
- Visit the Los
Cuentos web site. This will take you to the “Pagina de
los cuentos” homepage
- Scroll down the page until you find the “cuenteros invitados”
link. It takes you to a page with links to short stories written
by some of the most important Spanish and Latin American writers
- Click on “Gabriel Garcia Marquez”. This will take
you to a page containing a biography of the famous Colombian writer
- Read or scroll down to the bottom of the page. Click on the link
“Cuentos no clasificados”
- Now click on the link “Remedios la bella”, a short
story about one of the characters in Marquez’s most famous
novel, “One Hundred Years of Solitude”
- Either read “Remedios la bella”, or try out some
of the other links and pages
TIP: When reading short stories, you don’t need to understand
every single word. Try to aim instead for general or global understanding.
If you find that a story is too hard or boring, just stop reading
and select a different one.
