Listening

The BBC offers some of the best resources for students of any language. To help build your French listening comprehension skills, it has a library of recorded material on a range of interesting issues. Many of them are accompanied by reading texts, comprehension and vocabulary exercises, and games. Follow the steps below:

• Visit the BBC Languages French site.
• This will take you to a page containing a series of thematically organised links
• Try clicking on the “Society/language” link
• Now, click on “Les textos:le nouveau langage du pouce”. Firstly, read the accompanying text and fill in the gaps, then test your answers by clicking on the “listen” link. You will hear a report that discusses text messaging in France .
• Now, try some of the other pages and links. Note that not all of them contain recorded material.
• Many audio and video materials to practice your listening skills and specifically aimed at French learners are also available on TV5MONDE.
• Try in particular: Langue française  and Apprendre le français
• Your listening skills will help you to improve your productive skills of speaking, i.e. reproducing sounds accurately and using the right intonation and accent. Try this Phonétique site to test yourself.
