Bronze bust on a granite plinth (1891) located in the castle grounds (opposite the children's play area).
Decorating the pedestal is a bronze swag and laurel wreath, upon which is an inscription showing the sincere feelings of the subscribers: 'In affectionate remembrance of the simple manliness of his character and the devotion of his life to the performance of his duty'. Major Jonathan ('Jonty') White was born in Radford, west Nottingham and rose to become Adjutant of the Robin Hood Rifles (formed in 1859). He retired as a Major in 1879, having served in the First Afghan War, which is commemorated by the next memorial on this site. The sculptor, Albert Toft, produced a wealth of sculptures and memorials, including the poet Philip James Bailey.
