Deforestation is
a subject which is frequently presented in the media in a simple and emotive
fashion. However, the socio-economic factors associated with deforestation
are numerous and the issues associated with it (e.g. rights of indigenous
people, sovereign rights of countries, debt burden etc.) are complex.
By focusing in on the Amazon Basin this section of the course seeks to
highlight some of these problems in a concrete context.
