4 William Cavendish by Sir William Wilson (c.1680)

This much-disfigured equestrian portrait of William Cavendish, the first Duke of Newcastle is located on the western façade of the castle, carved in the round by Sir William Wilson (1641-1710). This was vandalised at the time of the Reform Bill riots of 1831.
